CHACO CULTURE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK
Artist in Residence Program
Gateway to Ancient Cultures
October 2025 COMING SOON
An entire ancient metropolis, and one of the vital crossroads of Anasazi-Chacoan culture, the ancestral culture to today’s Rio Grande Pueblos. Chaco Culture NHP consists of ten+ ancient village complexes nestled in a long valley of dramatic cliffs and buttes. This park, because it is one of the least visited, is truly a secret jewel for artistic inspiration. Open to all artists, writers musicians, or performance artists.
The park is located in the open plains of Northwestern New Mexico, sharing borders with the Navajo Nation and BLM land. A UNESCO World Heritage Site with Dark Sky certification, the park preserves one of the most important pre-Columbian cultural and historical areas in the United States and one of the best sites in the world for archaeoastronomy and its interpretation.
